Holding a two-day seminar on resolving disputes and mediation from the perspective of Islam for tribal leaders and nomadic chiefs in Herat
A two-day educational and awareness-raising seminar entitled “Resolving disputes and mediation from the perspective of Islam” was held for a group of tribal leaders, influential people and nomadic chiefs of Herat province by the Department of Borders, Tribes of Herat province with the financial and technical support of the Atefi Charity Foundation.
The program began on the 01 & 02 July 2025 in the assembly hall (Department of Borders, Tribes of Herat province) and was attended by more than (80) tribal elders, nomadic communities and employees of that department.
At the opening of the seminar, Mufti Mohammad Amin “Hamdard”, Head of Border Ports Coordination of the Ministry of Borders, Ethnicities and Tribes, praised the organizers of this program and emphasized the importance of organizing such programs, saying that seminars like this play a fundamental role in raising awareness among the people, how to resolve ethnic conflicts and differences, and eliminating undesirable customs and traditions from the society.
Sayed Mohammad Nadeem, Head of Coordination Tribal Affairs of the Herat Provincial Borders Department, stated that the purpose of holding this meeting was to enhance capacity, local mediation, strengthen constructive dialogue, and create peaceful solutions to resolve local conflicts.
He added: “Nomadic tribes and communities have a special place in the social structure of the country, and the role of the leaders of these communities in ensuring peace, stability, and social justice is unparalleled.”
Abdul Zaher “Ershad”, Deputy Director of the Atefi Charity Foundation, said in his opening remarks: “Holding such seminars lays the groundwork for understanding, mutual acceptance, and rebuilding trust between different ethnic groups. We believe that through dialogue and mutual respect, lasting peace can be achieved.
He added: “By holding such meetings, we are trying to provide the basis for ways out of problems and resolve conflicts and differences in society.”
Mavlavi Rahmatullah “Jaber”, the Director of Education of Herat Province, Dr. Mohammad Rafiq “Ghariq”, a university professor, and Mavlavi Abdul Baqi “Ahmadi”, the head of the nomads of Herat Province, delivered speeches and said: “The root of many conflicts between ethnic groups is misunderstanding and lack of skills in dialogue. In cooperation with public institutions, we are trying to provide the basis for resolving these differences within the people themselves through education and capacity building.”
It is worth mentioning that during the two-day seminar, topics such as:
- Basic concepts of conflict resolution,
- The role of ethnic traditions and values in reconciliation,
- Methods of dialogue and mediation,
- Brotherhood and sisterhood
- And successful experiences in conflict resolution were presented to the participants by experienced professors and social and legal experts.
The participants, while expressing their satisfaction with the holding of this seminar, called for the continuation of similar programs in other districts and nomadic communities. They emphasized that they would apply what they had learned at the level of their own tribe and clan.
The seminar ended with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
